Daydreaming of Venice

I don’t know about you, but I could sure use a little daydreaming today. Â
Adam took this photo of Venice’s Grand Canal and Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute back in September 2002, from the center of the Ponte dell’Accademia. Â So far, it’s my favorite photo from our travels.
Minutes after this photo was taken, we would stumble into one of the city’s most glorious art museums, the Gallerie dell’Accademia, and surprise ourselves by falling in love with the golden paintings of the Byzantine.  Hours later, we’d be back on the water again, sluicing along in a shiny black gondola, the sky almost violet, lights twinkling from every palazzo.
Ah, Venice.

The more I think about Venice, the less I understand it. It is beautiful and ugly, the familiar mixed up with strange, a place where the sea needed to be. I love it.
Hello,
I liked Venice, very awesome experience, the great market in rialto, the boats passing by.
I am missing VENICE!!

Venice is a true experience. Nicely captured in this fine photo of the main canal. Theer is always a soft light in Venetian photos.
