We’ve just attended our first “underground dinner” in Los Angeles (as non-paying guests): we had a general idea of what we’d be eating, but until the 11th hour, no idea where we’d be eating.
The event was big, raucous, delicious and exciting — and part of a movement that’s happening all over the world.
Langham Huntington: Anniversary-tastic

For our recent wedding anniversary, we escaped a late summer heatwave at the Langham Huntington, an elegant fairyland with a view of the San Gabriel Mountains, a soothing spa and a staggering afternoon tea.
At the center of Pasadena, California, just north of Los Angeles, we’re not sure what’s better about the Langham:
That it feels like the Queen of England’s vacation palace…or that it’s a whopping 20 minutes from our house.

Whoowhee, but we love us some central California…especially its wine valleys.
Happy for us, then, that Sunset Magazine is soon sponsoring a four-day event on a ranch in San Luis Obispo County to celebrate the tastes and vintages of the entire region.

Off to New York City

Long time no talk…but that’s just because it’s been a long time since I’ve had consistent wi-fi.
Costa Rica has many things – lush jungles, howling monkeys, screeching frogs, crashing waves, endless palm orchards, dramatic thunderstorms – but satellite coverage when it’s cloudy? Not so much. So, I’ve contented myself with being on vacation and taking lots of photos.
After a week of beautifully preserved nature without crowds (besides the wedding party for Adam’s cousin Minona and her new husband, Peter), it’s hard to get my head around the fact that tomorrow Adam and I will each be in one of the largest cities in the world…just not the same city.
As of last night, we‘d arrived in San Jose, the last stop on our Costa Rican trip and itself a bit of a culture shock.
