Adventures in California Wine Country: Napa Valley – Part One

According to The Wine Institute — who recently sent me and my friend Jen Miner to the Northern California wine country on a research mission to find great adventures for couples and friends — September is California Wine Month

And while September is a gorgeous time to visit the Napa Valley, home to hundreds of wineries and the town of Calistoga…it’s now over. Fortunately, Napa should also be pretty darn stunning throughout October and November.

For a little travel-planning inspiration, here are some of the adventures that Jen and I enjoyed in the Napa Valley, from being cocooned in grapeseeds and mud, to pairing a local Zinfandel with a cheeseburger, to accompanying a second-generation winemaker on a drive through his hillside grapevines.

Off to Napa and Sonoma for California Wine Month

California-vineyards-in-the-fall

Hi there, wine lovers!

Tomorrow I’ll be off to Northern California, wending my way through Napa and Sonoma with my dear friend and fellow blogger, Jennifer Miner of The Vacation Galsin honor of The Wine Institute‘s celebration of California Wine Month.

(And yes, I’m with you: every month might as well be California Wine Month. However, September is extra special because it’s harvest time.)

Jen’s and my itinerary seems nothing short of spectacular, designed to highlight Napa and Sonoma as ideal destinations for romantic and girlfriend getaways. I’m excited to share our adventures on Instagram (@travelswithtwo) and Twitter (@wynnewin) as we travel through these wine valleys for the next few days.

And starting next week, I’ll share posts about the trip here on Travels With Two!

The Women of Napa Wine Trail

I recently found myself in a room full of fascinating women from some of the Napa Valley’s finest vineyards, and I got to thinking:

Why not celebrate the female winemakers of Napa by proposing a trail that follows them?

So, here’s my suggestion for finding the feminine (and deeply impressive) side of a traditionally male universe.

Northern California: Napa & Sonoma

We like wine. Specifically, Adam likes to drink it and I like to learn about it, think about it, seek it out and hunt it down.

Known collectively as the California Wine Country (though not, by all means, the only ones in the state), the Napa & Sonoma Valleys are excellent places to do all of this…

…while you’re still alert and upright.
