According to The Wine Institute — who recently sent me and my friend Jen Miner to the Northern California wine country on a research mission to find great adventures for couples and friends — September is California Wine Month

And while September is a gorgeous time to visit the Napa Valley, home to hundreds of wineries and the town of Calistoga…it’s now over. Fortunately, Napa should also be pretty darn stunning throughout October and November.

For a little travel-planning inspiration, here are some of the adventures that Jen and I enjoyed in the Napa Valley, from being cocooned in grapeseeds and mud, to pairing a local Zinfandel with a cheeseburger, to accompanying a second-generation winemaker on a drive through his hillside grapevines.

According to The Wine Institute — which recently sent me and my friend Jen Miner to the Northern California wine country on a research mission to find great adventures for couples and friends — September is California Wine Month

And while September is a gorgeous time to visit the Napa Valley, home to hundreds of wineries and the towns of St. Helena and Rutherford…it’s now over. Fortunately, Napa should also be pretty darn stunning in October and November.

For a little travel-planning inspiration, here are some of the adventures that Jen and I enjoyed in the Napa Valley, from a tour of the granddaddy of Napa wineries to an elegant lunch on a garden terrace to a wine cave atop a famous hill.

Adventures in California Wine Country: Sonoma County – Part Two

Recently,  The Wine Institute sent me and my friend Jen Miner to the Northern California wine country to discover the joys of California Wine Month…or as most people call it, “September.”

September is indeed a gorgeous time to visit Sonoma County, home to over 250 wineries and the sleepy city of Santa Rosa. But with September on the way out, I’m happy to report that Sonoma County should also be pretty darn stunning in October and November.

For a little Santa Rosa travel-planning inspiration, consider taking a side trip to Africa — while never leaving the wine country.

Adventures in California Wine Country: Sonoma County – Part One

My friend Jen Miner and I recently returned from a research trip (no, seriously) to Northern California wine country. We were sent by  The Wine Institute to discover the joys of California Wine Month…or as most people call it, “September.”

September is indeed a gorgeous time to visit Sonoma County, home to over 250 wineries and the town of Healdsburg. The grape harvest has just begun, so some vines have been picked clean, while others hang heavy with fruit. Mornings are cool and overcast, midday is sunny, and by 4:30 p.m., the sky starts to turn golden.

The even better news? Sonoma County should also be pretty darn stunning in October and November.

For a little Healdsburg travel-planning inspiration, consider indulging in a winery’s custom-made wine pairing menu, and appreciating a little local art. Y’know, like we did.

Adventures in California Wine Country: Sonoma County – Part One

Grapes in Kenwood, California, the heart of Sonoma County wine country

According to The Wine Institute — who just sent me and my friend Jen Miner to the Northern California wine country on a research mission — September is California Wine Month

September is a gorgeous time to visit Sonoma County, home to over 250 wineries and the towns of Petaluma, Kenwood and Sonoma.

For a little travel-planning inspiration, here are some of the adventures that Jen and I enjoyed in Sonoma County, from Chardonnay-sipping to sleeping (on high thread-count sheets) in a former California mission.
