Granada means “pomegranate” in Spanish. There, now you’re on your way to being bilingual.
But wait, there’s more.
North African Muslims brought the granada to Spain and made the fruit famous.
To Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand, a granada symbolized the Moorish empire itself. When they finally conquered the city of Granada in 1492, it was the last Moorish stronghold in Spain; its capture meant that Christianity could now bear fruit in the entire country.
The Christian royals added the pomegranate to their coat of arms, and the city of Granada was instantly immortalized as a great jewel in the Spanish crown.
If your spouse/significant other ever suggests starting a business in your two-bedroom home, and because you work at home he asks you to be the part-time receptionist, and then the business grows to 14 employees, and after many months and proven success he offers to take you somewhere nice to thank you for being a good sport…choose Spain.
