LAT The Taste logo Giveaway: Tickets to a Gourmet Labor Day in L.A.

From September 1-3, 2012 in L.A., the Los Angeles Times will present their fabulous annual three-day food festival, THE TASTE — and has enabled me to give away one pair of tickets to the weekend’s crowning event, a Labor Day picnic that celebrates some of the best food in L.A.!

Read on to win…

THE TASTE 2012 will take place over Labor Day weekend at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. The festival’s five events highlight Southern California’s culinary scene, each featuring unlimited food and drink tastings from some of my favorite local restaurants and chefs, along with cooking and mixology demonstrations, wine seminars and panel discussions.

The first four TASTE events are:

FIELD TO FORK Saturday, 9/2 • 11 am- 3 pm (ages 21+)

Focused on cooking seasonal dishes, this event features local farmers and a chef’s challenge to create a winning dish using a basket full of local produce. Participating restaurants include two I especially enjoy, the all-American Cook’s County and Peruvian Picca.

COCKTAIL CONFIDENTIAL Saturday, 9/2 • 8 – 11 pm (ages 21+)

An evening dedicated to cocktail culture, mixology competitions and small bites. Participating restaurants and bars include The Roger Room (my favorite bar in L.A.) and Ray’s & Stark Bar (the bar/restaurant at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art).

FLAVORS OF L.A. Sunday, 9/2 • 11 am – 3 pm (ages 21+)

A day full of international dishes via Los Angeles’ best restaurants and celebrity chefs like Ludo Lefebvre, Susan Feniger and Ricardo Zarate. Participating restaurants include STREET (a celebration of street foods from around the world) and The Spice Table (an elegant blend of Vietnamese and Singaporean cuisine).

DINNER & DRINKS Sunday, 9/2 • 8 – 11 pm (ages 21+)

“The Beer Chicks” (Christina Perozzi and Hallie Beaune) host an evening devoted to pairing signature dishes with schmancy booze, including custom beer cocktails. Participating restaurants and bars include the sleek Whist at Viceroy Hotel and Rick Bayless’ Mexican hacienda-style Red O.

And the event for which I have tickets is:

LABOR DAY PICNIC Monday, 9/3 • 11 am – 3 pm (all ages)

A celebration of the sandwich, from ice cream to burgers to tacos to bánh mì. Events include a cooking competition between local firefighters, and cooking demonstrations by Zoe Nathan (Huckleberry), Nancy Silverton (Mozza and La Brea Bakery), and Judy Jan (Mendocino Farms). Other participating restaurants include some of L.A.’s most treasured eateries: The Grilled Cheese Truck, Coolhaus, Bouchon, and A-Frame.

For most of the rabble out there, each of these five events will cost $65 in advance or $75 at the door.

But…

Ummmm my favorite sandwich during summer is a buffalo mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes with a little drizzle of olive oil.
    Yum

  2. Lauren Sanyal says:

The prosciutto pear sandwich from Andrew’s Cheese Shop in Santa Monica, CA is the BEST EVER.

  3. my absolute favorite sandwich in the world is a chicken banh mi. sometimes I order it at
Banh Mi My Tho in Alhambra, sometimes make it at home, a version of this recipe: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Pork-Meatball-Banh-Mi-356790 but there’s something about the toasted baguette, the crispity, crunchity, fresh vegetables, and the savory meat, all combine together in a flavor explosion in my stomach.

thanks for the giveaway, I’d love to go!

  4. Leela Rao says:

This is easy, my favorite sandwich in the world is a grilled cheddar and turkey sandwich on sourdough. Sometimes simple is the best

  5. jessica pasillas says:

    BLT all time favorite

  6. Brenda Johnson says:

Vegetarian on rye with extra avocado!

  7. I has a really good Cobb sandwich in San Diego this weekend. Might be my new favorite.

  8. asada torta from tortas las glorias in ontario. crossing my fingers!

  9. Grilled Cheese Supreme
Danish Fontina and Fiscalini cheddar cheese,Granny Smith apples and fig jam

  10. michael walsh says:

My favorite sandwich…is the Michael sandwich at Cafe LuMar in Monrovia! Its a panni with cheese greens mushrooms and cheese!

  11. Shawn Wilson says:

Grilled American cheese, when paired with chicken noodle soup and served by your mom on a rainy day .

  12. I love the ham & gruyere grilled cheese sandwich from Mendocino Farms! With tomato soup, of course :)

  13. My favorite sandwich is a peanut butter and orange marmalade sandwich. Old school, but still so yummy. :)

  14. Homemade meatballs with tomato sauce and grated romano on a toasted hoagie! No better sandwich in the world!!

  15. I love a good pulled pork sandwich! I’m a Texas girl at heart.

  16. My favorite sandwich in the world is an alaskan halibut sandwich served on a bolillo roll with lemon butter, lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, pepper jack cheese and tartar sauce <3

  17. My favorite sandwich in the WORLD is the pastrami sandwich at Katz Deli. It’s one of the few deli’s left in NY that carve their meats by hand and pile the meat high! It’s beyond delicious and a MUST HAVE when visiting NY. I know it’s on my “to do” list each time I take a trip back!

  18. I travel a lot and I’m a HUGE foodie, so when I know I’m heading somewhere, most of my trip is based around where I’m going to eat. The place I think that has one of the best sandwiches in the world is Crispy Drunken Sandwich from Baguette Box in Seattle. The chicken are deep-fried and glazed in a tangy brown sauce, then served on a crispy baguette with caramelized onions and cilantro. YUMMMM!!!!!!!

  19. Erin O'Neal says:

    Tomato, Basil, Mozzarella!!! YUM.

  20. Stephanie V. says:

Went on a culinary tour while visiting Miami last year and had a Cuban sandwich for the first time. Surprised how much I loved it! This event looks amazing. Have husband and kids drooling along with me. Cheers!

  21. Toni Lynn Quach says:

I love a good egg salad sandwich on fresh baked rye bread. The allure lies in the ingredients. The rye bread must have a thick , crunchy crust on the outside with a soft, chewy interior. Soft boiled eggs provide decedent, rich filling laced with white onions, yellow mustard , and diced pickles.

  22. Fave sandwich in the word? Probably the US$1 porky banh mi sandwich in Hoi An, as seen in the Bourdain Vietnam episode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUSWsR9h4qY

  23. Gianna Patton says:

My favorite sandwich in all the world is my Mom’s egg salad sandwich. No matter what I do, I can’t replicate it myself. Must be the love she puts into it!

  24. The pulled pork sandwich from Mendocino Farms – it has potato salad on it. ON IT!

  25. My favorite summer sandwich is roasted red peppers, bufala mozzarella and fresh basil on rosemary bread. Yummy!!!!!

  26. This has, without compare, been the most fun giveaway I’ve ever had — because now I have an all-star lineup of sandwiches to reference when I get hungry! Thank you all for entering. :)

  27. Federico Martinez says:

Cemita poblana, with chipotle avocado and queso oaxaca…… Simply Delicious!

  28. One of my favorite sandwiches, from the grand central market in downtown LA, is torta de trompa.

  29. Egg salad sandwich. Sometimes I’ll still eat it with white sandwich bread just the way I used to eat it as a kid.

  30. I would have to say the Smoked Turkey & Gruyere sandwich from Larchmont Cheese & Wine in Larchmont Village. The baguette the sandwich is served on is perfectly crispy and chewy all at the same time, with a sundried tomato spread that serves as a yummy alternative to plain ol’ mayo. After they layer the meat, sharp cheese, tomato and mixed greens they seal the sandwich with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic. It’s the perfect gourmet sandwich for half the price of what you would pay at a gourmet lunch spot!! I keep going back for more! Try the black ham with olive tapenade, prosciutto and arugula, etc. You really can’t make a bad choice here! ;)
