Call it a test of my own gumption or a simple thirst for adventure:
I’m hopping in my car and hitting the road to explore the American West!
In Tijuana, Mexico, the largest city in the Baja state, there’s certainly a lingering fear of drug violence and a strange tendency to paint donkeys like zebras. But amongst a vibrant backdrop of street art and mariachi music there’s also a growing focus on creative, elegant and locavore-friendly cuisine.
Tijuana’s emerging foodie scene offers both a cultural connection and, glass by bottle, a gateway to Baja’s thriving Guadalupe Valley wine country. So have a seat and tuck in, con gusto.
Hotel restaurants in Los Angeles generally provide a swanky night out, even for locals. These days, they’re where couples go to be seen booth-canoodling while drinking artful cocktails and elegantly mainlining macaroni and cheese.

Today is Valentine’s Day, which gives a great big hug to the concept of love.
(Well, the commercial concept of love, anyway.)
Amidst the candlelight, soft music, Champagne, chocolate and Hallmark™-fest of this sexy little holiday, keep in mind that this is but one day in your grand adventure. It shouldn’t carry the burden of a whole year’s quota for romance.
So go out, stay in — it doesn’t really matter. What matters on this day, or any old day at all, is your eyes meeting — and lingering; your hands touching; your shared laughter and stories. It’s as lovely a day as any to push aside responsibility for a while and indulge in the simple joy of being in one another’s presence.
And while you’re at it, a lovely day to plan your next adventure, together.
XOXO,
Melanie
