Just another day along the Mongol Rally's epic route
When I found out that my friends, married couple Dave Bouskill and Debra Corbeil of The Planet D, were going to participate in their own trip of a lifetime, I was incredibly excited. Next month, they’ll embark on the 2011 Mongol Rally — a 10,000 mile journey from London, England to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
When I heard that they were raffling off a choice between two trips of a lifetime to give one lucky supporter their own epic adventure, I thought you’d be incredibly excited, too!
The Mongol Rally involves driving a (wholly unsuitable to the task) sponsored car across hell and gone to raise money for a community in need. Calling themselves The Social Media Syndicate, Dave, Deb and their Mongol Rally teammates, Sherry Ott (of OttsWorld and career-break community Meet Plan Go!) and Rick Griffin (of Midlife Road Trip TV), have already secured the jalopy that they’ll be driving and done an amazing job raising over £4,500 for the Rally’s main charity, the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation.
Now they’re looking to raise enough to actually enable their team’s (attempted) drive one-third of the way around the world. To this end, the Social Media Syndicate has partnered with tour provider Intrepid Travel to raffle off The Trip of a Lifetime.
The one raffle winner will choose between two of Intrepid’s most incredible adventures:
Wild Mongolia: This 15-day trip includes the Mongol Rally’s final destination (and the country’s capital), Ulaanbaatar. Heading out across the country, you’ll stay in Ger camps, hike volcanos and enjoy Mongolian barbecues. Follow in the footsteps of Genghis Khan and take a camel ride into the desert sand dunes of Khogno Khan.

Inca Trail: This 8-day journey takes you through the historic center of Lima, Peru, the charming city of Cuzco, and through the Sacred Valley and ancient city of Ollantaytambo before you’ll trek the famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.
(By the by…Mongolia? #3 on my dream trip list. Just sayin.’)
Monday, June 6th through Sunday, June 12th, raffle participants will donate $5 for each entry in a random draw to be held the following week. Each $5 entry gives you another chance to win, and participants have until 12 midnight PST on Sunday, June 12th to enter.
