In its third year, the travel bloggers’ force for good, Passports with Purpose, is aiming to build a village in India. It’ll cost at least $50,000 — and I’m hoping you can help.
Travel bloggers and companies from around the globe have ponied up a collection of fabulous travel opportunities, perks and items designed to inspire your wallet — and heart — to open.
For my own contribution, I’ve secured a fabulous 3-night stay at the Rincón Beach Resort in western Puerto Rico!
The Pwp raffle is open now, and each tax-deductible donation of $10 or more will enter you in a drawing for the prize of your choice.
Once again, Seattle-based travel bloggers Nerd’s Eye View, Wandermom, Delicious Baby and Wanderlust and Lipstick have joined forces as Passports with Purpose to change the world, a little at a time.
In its first year, Passports with Purpose, 2008 raised $7,400 for Heifer International. Last year, PwP raised almost $30,000 for American Assistance for Cambodia to build and entirely outfit a school for impoverished, uneducated kids in that Southeast Asian country. (And to think, the 2009 goal had been a mere $14K.)
This year, the PwP team has been inspired by a woman named Krishnammal, who, through a foundation called Friends of LAFTI, fights to improve the lives of India’s “untouchables.” In two adjacent villages in eastern India, 25 families live in mud huts instead of proper homes…in a country where monsoons are the norm. The hope is to properly house them all, in a village to call their own.
To contribute to this remarkable fund-raising effort, I’ve secured a 3-night stay at the gorgeous Rincón Beach Resort along the Porta del Sol, the exciting western region of Puerto Rico. Offering superior (and romantic) accommodations, two on-site restaurants, horseback riding, golf, snorkeling, kayaking, sailing and more, this fantastic travel prize has a retail value of $800.
The raffle is open until December 13th, so you’ll have the next three weeks to make a difference in the life of people you may never meet — but who may someday change the world for the better.
