Travels in Our Own Backyard

I was home in L.A. this weekend, kicking off a three-week stretch of local living. Don’t get me wrong, I/we love to travel…but honestly? I’ve missed my garden, and wanted to share it, in the full glory of a Southern California Spring — with you.

We moved into our home in 1999, and started planting right away. Just about 11 years later, we’ve seen what does and doesn’t work, and been inspired to track down flowers we’ve discovered on our travels to Hawaii, Bali, the Cook Islands, Montana and more.

Around this time of year, our apricots feed the birds, each rose seems soft and new, and the scent of orange blossoms wafts straight into our bedroom. If we were in town all the time, I’m not sure we’d appreciate our garden half as much as we do…and we have no intention of testing that theory.

For now, it’s just wonderful to be home.

  1. I’m not sure I’d be so happy to sell our place to travel full-time if I had a garden like this! What a wonderful oasis to come back to. I’m relaxed just looking at the pictures.

  2. And I’ve spent 3 weeks pulling weeds… with so much more to go it seems. I aspire to this greatness. Just beautiful.

  3. So beautiful and lush! I would find it quite an inspiration to write in such surrounds 🙂
