We visited Belgium in December 2003, the coldest winter Europe had seen in 100 years.
But Brussels comes alive in the cold, showing its penchant for Christmas cheer.
Even a train trip through the leafless countryside is a joy, with small cottages puffing clouds of chimney woodsmoke. The seaside is steel gray, and the medieval jewel of Bruges is full of cozy corners in which to get utterly lost.
We love Belgium for its groundbreaking Art Nouveau architecture, chocolate, gilded town squares,
Flemish art masters, and the well-traveled comic book hero, Tin Tin.
Here are some resources to help you plan your own “travels with two” to Belgium.
