Its famous symbol is a huge cherry perched on an even bigger spoon.
Its most famous town, Lake Wobegon, is entirely fictional.
It’s the home of Prince’s Paisley Park
and a senator who used to be a hit on Saturday Night Live.
Its state fair is the epicenter of on-a-stick cuisine,
its land dotted with 1,000 lakes.

Minnesota sounds like an altogether magical, American place.

Here are some resources to help you plan your own “travels with two” to Minnesota.

I’m a true Minnesotan, born and bred, but currently living in Ecuador. Minnesota is a beautiful (and often underrated) state, and Minneapolis/St. Paul is one of the greenest cities in the country (20% of the city is lakes, rivers or parks!)

In the winter you can ski in one of the many resorts along the Superior shore, check out the St. Paul Winter Carnival, the nation’s oldest and largest winter carnival (ice sculptures included), or go ice fishing in one of the state’s thousands of lakes.

Summertime fun includes paddleboats down the Mississippi, water sports in countless lakes, trips up north to remote and relaxing cabins, rocking out at outdoor music festivals (Prince, Bob Dylan, Jonny Lang…MN is known for its music talent!), and of course…trying just about ANYTHING deep-fried on a stick at the MN State Fair…second largest fair in the country (yes, Texas holds that title).

Rachel, thank you for sharing all this about your beloved home state! We’re all for paddleboat rides AND deep-fried food…I see a long Minnesota weekend in our future.
