On our recent trip to Couples Tower Isle in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, we met a wonderful couple who were making their first return to the resort…in 45 years!
Lyn and Arthur Dobrin honeymooned in 1964 at the then Tower Isle Hotel, and here they were again. After the late ’70s adoption of a couples-only concept, a new name, and millions in ’09 renovations, the Dobrins wanted to see if Tower Isle had completely changed…or stayed just a little like it was.
Lyn and Arthur live on Long Island, and travel, in their own words (and our idea of a gleaming understatement), a “fair bit.” They’ve written about romantic travel in Africa, Belize and Spain for About.com, where their bio speaks volumes about their kind, gentle and educational journey upon the Earth.
I flipped over their honeymoon photos, and when we learned that they wanted to reenact them in the present day, we we were all over it. In a strange but satisfying role reversal, Adam took these photos and I handled the art direction.
It was a joy to see two people who’ve been married to each other for so long having such a wonderful time in each other’s company, as well as recreating a piece of their history.
Pretty cool, too, to see that Couples Tower Isle is still a breezy, romantic spot with a deck overlooking the beach, waving palm trees and the very same Caribbean Sea.
We loved hanging out with Lyn and Arthur, who are full of great stories of their adventures, passions and now-grown children. However, we didn’t take them up on their invitation to sail across to Couples Tower Isle’s adjacent, naturalist-only island; we merely sent them off there with a smile. They enjoy al fresco nudity in a safe, respectful environment, while so far we’ve really only enjoyed being naked with each other.
Fortunately, Lyn snapped our favorite Couples Tower Isle photo, as she and Arthur enjoyed a late-afternoon catamaran cruise; on this day, it seemed the moon came out before the sunset.
Oh, Dobrins…oh, Couples Tower Isle. We miss you.

hahaha, Great photo. :Yes, I don’t think that I could join another couple that I have been hanging out with on a nude beach. But it is great that there are people out there that are so free:)
Lyn and Arthur Dobrin live in the house across the street from where I grew up. When I was a young girl, one day Lyn told me, “Arthur marries other people.” It took me a while to figure out that she meant he performed wedding ceremonies, NOT that he literally was married to other people! Congratulations, Lyn and Arthur on 45 years!

Peggy, that’s hilarious! Especially because it’s mpossible to think of Arthur married to anyone else but Lyn
