Montana: Breathe Deeply Along the Trail of the Cedars

trail of the cedars1 Montana: Breathe Deeply Along the Trail of the CedarsSometimes L.A. traffic gets us down, but we just think about the cool forest shade of the Trail of the Cedars in Montana’s Glacier National Park…and the breathing room.

Soon we’re transported to a quiet boardwalk that winds it way through ancient trees and across the rushing, ice-blue Avalanche Creek, cradled by layers of moss-dappled stone.  Sure, there are other people around, but everyone is in silent awe of the tallest trees we’ve all seen outside a redwood preserve.

One deep breath and our lungs are clear of smog and stress and the pressing need to be anywhere else.

In Glacier, the winter snow doesn’t come ’til October…and the high season ends in late September. In other words…there’s still time.   [Read more...]

3766391976 2256fb0bb5 300x199 Weird House of Cambria: Nitt Witt RidgeSome of you may remember that Adam and I love ourselves a weird house.  Well, Cambria, on the Central California Coast, has one of the weirdest we’ve ever seen.

A Weekend of Wine in Paso Robles

3765580701 dc6385ce28 300x195 A Weekend of Wine in Paso Robles We hadn’t been to our favorite California wine region, Paso Robles, in over a year…and so it was time.

In the past year, there’s been an explosion of new wineries in this valley (a climate similar to France’s Cotes du Rhône), with more on the way. We just spent a blissful weekend trying some of what’s new in the area, as well as what’s simply new to us.

We can’t make it back for the Wine for Water benefit on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Park Ballroom, but might just shoot for the Harvest Wine Weekend, October 16-18, 2009.

Between now and late Fall, it’s a great time to get yourselves to Paso.

A Dog-Friendly Stay by the Cambria Shore

3766384180 5ddabf9466 240x300 A Dog Friendly Stay by the Cambria ShoreWe just returned from a short but restful weekend away with Adam’s mom and stepdad, our beloved dog Toby in tow.

We made our home at the very dog-friendly Cambria Shores Inn on Moonstone Beach in Cambria, California, perched beside a meandering boardwalk and the roiling Pacific. We got great suggestions for outdoor dining, ran pell-mell on a wide swath of blustery beach, and reconnected with our itinerant loved ones.

Added bonus to this weekend? No need for yet another dog sitter.

Off to the Central Coast…and more

mg 9713 300x200 Off to the Central Coast...and moreWell, hi there, folks — happy almost-weekend to you!

I’m hard at work preparing lots of new material for the launch of the TWT re-design, coming soon.  It’s been a summer-long project so far, and will prove, I hope, an even more helpful, inspirational resource.

Just now, I could be working 24 hours a day (in blogging, there’s always something you’re neglecting by doing, well, anything else), but there’s traveling yet to do.

We’re off at dawn tomorrow for our favorite spot on the Central California coast, Cambria, with a side trip to Paso Robles, our favorite wine country in the state.  Toby the Wonder Corgi will be joining us, and we’re meeting up with Adam’s mom and stepdad to stay at the dog-friendly Cambria Shores Inn on Moonstone Beach.
